Meet The Team

The practice has 3 dentists, 3 dental hygienist/therapists and a very enthusiastic, loyal support team.

The addition of dental hygienist/therapists to the team has significantly increased our ability to focus on the preventative aspect of dentistry. Time spent on prevention generally gives a better guarantee of future good dental health.

A Dental Therapist can carry out a range of procedures, including:

• Intra and extra oral assessment

• Scaling and polishing

• Applying materials to teeth such as fluoride and fissure sealants

• Taking dental radiographs

• Providing dental health education on a one to one basis or in a group situation

• Undertaking routine restorations in both deciduous and permanent teeth, on adults and children

• Using all materials except pre cast or pinned placements

• Extracting deciduous teeth under local infiltration analgesia

• Taking impressions

Practice Principal

Andrew Shelbourne B.D.S (Sheffield 1990)

Andrew qualified in 1990 from the University of Sheffield and provides all aspects of general dentistry.

He has undertaken further advanced training in restorative dentistry at the St Ann’s Dental Post Graduate Education Centre in Manchester. He has been with the practice since 1990.

Joan Nettleton B.D.S. (Glasgow 1991)

Joan qualified from Glasgow and has also undertaken further training in Manchester at the St Ann’s Dental Post Graduate Education Centre. She has been at the practice since 1993.

Nicholas Powell B.D.S. (Newcastle 1996)

Nick graduated in 1996 from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He is an experienced General Dental Practitioner, having worked at a surgery in East Leeds for 20 years before joining the team here in May 2017.
